About Us

Polka Dot Sheep owner Aimee Alexander opened door of the Knit 'n Needle Yarn Shoppe (original name) in 2003 and introduced the world to the Polka Dot Sheep.  In 2010, Polka Dot Sheep hand dyed yarns launched and a new era began. Polkadotsheep.com was launched in 2011 to better serve yarn lovers everywhere and the Shoppe’s widespread loyal customers. In 2020, Polka Dot Sheep moved into the new building that replaced our dear and well loved first home, the Knit 'n Needle Yarn Shoppe. This move brought the Shoppe and the dye studio under one roof and Polka Dot Sheep continues to welcome visitors from far and near.

Along with Aimee, the staff of Polka Dot Sheep are friendly, knowledgeable knitters. As well as providing customers with a variety of yarns and tools, we offer helpful support and encouragement. Knitting has always been an activity that forges ties among people so there is always an open seat at the table where you can sit and knit or just chat. Often times you will find inspiration from someone's project lying on the table near the ball winder. Drop into our Ravelry group and see finished projects with our yarns as well as the same fun chatter and on-going projects.

Nearly every corner of the Shoppe is filled with our exclusive Polka Dot Sheep Yarn hand dyed in the adjacent studio as well as yarns from an every changing selection of other yarn producers. You will find a wide selection of circular, double point, and straight needles including the popular Addi Turbos and Addi Lace in multiple cable lengths.

Whitefish, Montana, home to the Polka Dot Sheep, is a small town tucked up against the mountains on the north end of the Flathead Valley. Many discover Whitefish when they come to enjoy the splendors of Glacier National Park or skiing on Big Mountain. Historically a timber and railroad town, Whitefish is now known for amazing year round recreational opportunities and its laid-back lifestyle.

Whether it's help selecting yarn, interpreting a pattern, or maybe even advice on local skiing that you need, the staff at Polka Dot Sheep and the polkadotsheep.com is happy to assist you. Just come on in, call, or click your way to our door, and check out our fabulous our hand dyed yarns for yourself.
